Drones are one of those technologies that have evolved significantly in recent years. A Tello drone in the sky used to be a curiosity, but today they seem to be everywhere. When I go for my morning run at Cronulla, flocks of them fly up into the sky as the sun rises.
The concept of flying a drone has always intrigued me, but where to begin? And for an amateur photographer looking to have some fun, learn the ropes, and maybe shoot a half-decent shot, $1500+ is a lot of money.

When you first see Tello, you’re impressed. Its small compared too many of the drones you’ve seen flying about. The Tello Drone weighs just 80 grams with propellers and batteries connected and is 7cm long. The Tello’s diagonal measurement from the propeller to the propeller is a little over 20cm.
Despite its little size, The Tello Drone isn’t a toy. It has many features and technologies that make it a great drone for learning and practice.
Tello Drone Controls
Controlling the Tello Drone is easy to learn. A smartphone app controls the Tello Drone. Once connected, two straightforward thumb pads provide basic control. It takes a few minutes to learn, and I recommend practicing inside before going outside with the Tello Drone.
That no one in the family crashed the Tello into trees, poles, or their own beards would be a lie. Accidents can occur while learning to fly for the first time. They usually occur when the pilot is bewildered after turning the Tello Drone. The drone moves right when pushed left. Let go of the control sticks, let the Tello self-stabilize (which it does extremely well, inside or out), then carefully operate the drone again. Viewing the 720p broadcast and Tello Reviews might also help refocus.

My lone bad take-off occurred during a windy morning picture shoot. It’s fair to say I was involved in the event. I fired up the Tello Drone and pushed the joystick. The powerful wind snatched the Tello and blew it away before it could settle. I found it in some bushes near the beach dunes. Needless to say, I had learned about flying conditions and object proximity.

To be honest, I didn’t anticipate much from a Tello Drone with such a low price tag. But I found Tello’s 5MP camera to be rather good. Sure, it’s not as good as the Mavic Pro 2’s amazing Hasselblad lens, but it’s also cheaper. The Tello Reviews has a lot to offer a novice.

I seldom leave my DSLR photographs unprocessed, so I wanted to explore what the Tello camera was actually capable of generating. Obviously, I was pleased with the outcomes. The resolution is a bit lower than I want, but with a few little tweaks, I got some fantastic results:
Safety
It was designed with novices in mind and is thus quite safe. The Tello Reviews tells the drone steady and even combats the wind. That reduces stress and allows you to focus on other things.
The propeller protection is a must-have for any beginner, and it has worked well in my experience.
Collision detection detects strikes and shuts down the propellers to protect anything it hits.
The Tello Drone small weight reduces the probability of injury if it inadvertently hits someone or anything.
When the battery is low, the Tello automatically descends in a controlled landing. It’s great to know my Tello won’t fall from the sky.
If the Tello loses contact with your smartphone, Failsafe Protection securely shuts it down.
Batteries
It has a 13-minute flying duration per battery. So far, my testing has shown that to be correct. The Tello Drone Boost Combo was supplied to me and I definitely recommend it. Two spare batteries and a battery charging hub are included. With the Boost Combo, I can enjoy a morning of dawn drone shooting without worrying about running out of power.
Limitations
I’ve spent a lot of time in this article praising Tello’s features and Tello Reviews. I am astounded by the number of goodies packed into such a little and reasonable box. Compromises must be made to develop like the Tello Drone.
First, it’s just 5MP. While I am pleased with the photos from such a simple camera, I know that to shoot professionally I would want much more (hello, Mavic 2 Pro). Similarly, video outputs at 720P, which is the minimum.
Because it is mounted on the camera, the sort of images you may shoot is restricted. Professional drones have 3-axis gimbals, therefore I wouldn’t expect to see one on a beginner’s drone.
Flight height is 30m and distance is 100m. Again, these are features that a novice drone should have, but you should know about them before purchasing.
As previously stated, struggles in windy conditions. Flying the drone in anything except a constant wind is risky. The DJI Flight Tech does an excellent job fighting the wind, but an 80g drone can only do so much.
Notably, these flaws did not affect my five-star rating for the Tello Drone. In truth, the Tello Reviews offers a lot of value for money. Its creators should be commended for keeping it simple.
Conclusions
The Tello Reviews, powered by DJI, is a very affordable. It has many drawbacks, but with a little patience and effort, it can be quite rewarding. Powered by DJI, is a terrific place to start if you’ve been considering a drone for photography or simply for fun.
