The Chronomat holds a special place in Breitling history.
Introduced in 1984,
when ultra-thin quartz timepieces were all the rage, Breitling wanted to dare by betting on a large mechanical watch,

When launched in 1984,
the Breitling Chronomat marked a welcome return to Swiss mechanical watches,
which had all but disappeared in the 1970s,
a time when quartz watches dominated the watch market.
Inspired by the watch created together with the famous Italian military patrol of the Frecce Tricolori,
developed and launched in 1983,
the Chronomat celebrated Breitling’s centenary in grand style
and marked the return of the mechanical chronograph on which the brand had built its world fame.
Although the Chronomat has long been defined as the watch of choice for aviators,
it has also found a passionate array of admirers even in a more transversal audience.
Indeed, its versatility added to its appeal in the late 1980s and early 1990s,
when its speedometer aroused the interest of Formula 1 teams,
while its interchangeable riders made it ideal for racing. regattas.

The Chronomat launched in 1984 expressed a different concept: “chronograph” and “automatic”,
a name that drew attention to the self-winding mechanical movement that animated the watch.
Each Chronomat is characterized by features that make it immediately recognizable: the peculiar rotating bezel enhanced by the riders,
which not only protect the glass, but facilitate its handling,
the riders at 3 and 9 o’clock, faithful to the original, are interchangeable,
so that the wearer of the watch can use them for both counting and countdown functions,

All chronographs in the new collection are powered by the Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01,
a mechanical movement capable of providing a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.

Chronomats are COSC certified chronomats, a confirmation of their accuracy by an independent body.
