Poker is still one of the greatest card games ever, still enjoyed by a lot of different people from different backgrounds, ranging from young people pitting their wits against older business people who have been playing this game for years. The game is played in many different places, from casinos to gentleman's clubs to people's home, playing after dinner. Poker has moved from the time of only been played in the casino, the card game is now played in pubs, who run their own leagues, as well as various over locations.
The game consists of the dealer, dealing out cards to the players, following this there are several rounds of betting, once the betting is finished, the dealer, deals more cards out, were more betting commences, once this has finished the players show their cards and the player with the best hand wins the pot, but throughout the game, the players try to bluff each other, and through this players sometimes fold, stepping out off that round.
Poker was a past time only for the rich for several years, but has steadily increased in popularity over the years. It has become very popular after the recent James Bond film, casino royale, where James Bond (played by Daniel Craig) has to bet the villain in a high stakes poker game. This film consisted mainly of the cast playing poker, through this film and the popularity of James Bond, the game of poker reached a wider audience and therefore increased the popularity of poker. From this, at casino's the poker tables will always be full, with people pitting their wits against one another, to win the game.
As the game of poker has increased in popularity over the years the game has now become a game that is regularly on the television, with competitions been played through the television for viewers entertainment, with the prize money sometimes reaching up to 1 million dollars, from this popularity, there is now tournaments, that consist of celebrities, who battle it out to take the victory and prize money for their chosen charities, with celebrities ranging from the actor Ben Affleck to rapper Coolio.
So poker as a game has quickly become more and more popular, with this been the only card game shown on television, the game itself can only grow stronger and stronger.
